HR professional reviews resumes on a laptop screen showing a candidate screening dashboard, with paper resumes on a wooden desk.

Part 7 of Claude Clocks In: the last stop in our series is the hiring desk, where Claude is already reading resumes faster than anyone on your team.

One of the clearest examples comes from Braintrust, an AI-powered recruiting platform that uses Claude to help clients hire faster. Clients using Claude-generated job descriptions saw a 25% increase in applicants, and close to 90% of hires came from matches rated good or great. That is the scale version. Here is where a smaller staffing agency or in-house recruiter can put the same tool to work.

Resume Screening and Shortlisting

This is the task that eats the most hours in a week: reading fifty resumes to find the five worth a call. Paste them into Claude with the job description and a scoring rubric, and it returns a ranked comparison table instead of a stack of tabs.

  • Screening and ranking a batch of resumes against your criteria
  • Building the Boolean search strings you use to source on LinkedIn or job boards
  • Flagging the two or three follow-up questions worth asking each finalist

Try this prompt: “Screen these 20 resumes against this job description. Score each on a 1 to 10 scale for relevant experience, flag any concerns, and return a ranked table: [paste resumes and job description].”

Job Descriptions and Candidate Outreach

A generic job post gets ignored, and so does a generic cold email. Claude drafts both from the same starting point, tailored to the role and the person:

  • Writing a job description that reads like your firm, not a template
  • Drafting a personalized outreach message from a candidate’s background and one recent accomplishment
  • Turning a client’s intake call into a clear, structured role brief

Before any of this goes out, decide what candidate and client data is allowed into an AI tool and what stays in your ATS. That is the kind of guardrail we help staffing firms set up so faster hiring does not become a data problem.

Try this prompt: “Draft a personalized outreach email to this candidate based on their LinkedIn background, referencing their current role and a specific accomplishment: [paste candidate summary].”

Letting Claude Run the Whole Batch

Copying and pasting into a chat window is one thing. Claude Cowork, launched in January 2026, is another: point it at a folder, and it works through a multi-step task on its own, showing you its plan before it executes so you are not handing off blind.

  • Pulling name, experience, and top skills from a folder of resume PDFs into one spreadsheet
  • Reading a batch of exported LinkedIn profiles and drafting a personalized email for each, saved as separate files
  • Mining your own candidate database: feed it a CSV export and a new job description, and it returns a shortlist of past candidates worth a second look
  • Turning a folder of scattered interviewer notes into structured scorecards, one per candidate

You can also save a process as a reusable Skill, a scoring rubric or an intake-call format, so the next role is a one-line prompt instead of rebuilding the setup from scratch.

Try this prompt: “Read every resume in this folder, extract name, years of experience, and top five skills, and build a summary spreadsheet ranked against this job description: [point to folder, paste job description].”

What It Will Not Do

Claude drafts and organizes; it does not decide who gets hired, and the stakes for getting that wrong are real. In Mobley v. Workday, a federal court allowed discrimination claims to proceed against an AI vendor, on the theory that its screening tool was not just a passive filter but an active participant in the hiring decision. A few rules keep that risk out of your process:

  • A human reviews every shortlist and makes the final call, never Claude
  • Verify a candidate’s identity is real before an offer goes out, given the rise of AI-generated resumes and deepfake interviews
  • Keep candidate and client data limited to what your AI tool is actually set up to protect

The Bottom Line

The hiring pipeline is not getting any shorter, but the busywork inside it can: Claude takes the first pass at the resumes, outreach, and prep so your recruiters spend their time on the conversations that actually decide a hire.
