Senior Administrator Yayati Chothe celebrates eight years at GiaSpace today. We asked him three questions.
Eight years is a long time in IT. Entire platforms have come and gone since October 2018, and so have a few of the “unbreakable” systems our clients relied on back then. Yayati Chothe has been here for all of it. He joined GiaSpace in October 2018, worked his way up to Senior Administrator, and today marks eight years with the company.
We asked him three questions. Here is what he said.
On the Favorite Part of the Job
“Solving problems,” Yayati says. “Every day is different, whether it is servers, clients, or new projects.”
What he enjoys most is the quiet version of a fix: getting something challenging to work and keeping it running so smoothly that the client never knew there was an issue. That is the standard most people in IT aim for, and few hit it consistently. (It is also why the best administrators rarely get thank-you emails; nobody writes in about the outage that did not happen.)
On the Proudest Moment
Ask most engineers about their best work and they will describe one big project. Yayati points to a category instead: migrations completed with minimal downtime.
Moving a client to a new system without disrupting their day-to-day is harder than it sounds. It means planning around payroll runs, end-of-month closes, and whatever else the client cannot afford to pause. Yayati has led enough of these that the process looks easy from the outside, which is the whole point.
Disaster recovery is the other area he names. When a client’s systems go down, the recovery plan is only as good as the person who built and tested it, and that work has made a real difference for the businesses GiaSpace supports.
On What Has Kept Him Here
“The people and the work,” he says. He credits a great team, especially Serdar, and names Robert as a mentor who shaped how he approaches the job.
The work itself has not gone stale either. Eight years in, it still does not feel routine; there is always something new to learn or a new challenge to solve. For someone whose favorite part of the job is solving problems, that is close to ideal.
Eight Years and Counting
Senior Administrators do not usually get the spotlight. Their best days are the ones where nothing happens, and that is the point of the role. So today we are making an exception.
Congratulations on eight years, Yayati. From all of us at GiaSpace, thank you, and here is to many more.
